Kirengeshoma palmata
Kirengeshoma palmata, often known as the yellow wax bells, is an elegant and unusual woodland perennial prized for its sculptural foliage and late-season flowers. Large, deeply lobed, maple-like leaves form a bold mound of foliage, adding texture and presence to shady borders from spring through autumn.
From late summer into early autumn, it produces waxy, nodding, pale yellow bell-shaped flowers held on tall, arching stems. These delicate blooms offer a subtle but striking contrast against the lush green foliage, providing colour and interest when many shade plants are fading.
Native to woodland areas in Korea and Japan, Kirengeshoma palmata thrives in moist, humus-rich soil with shelter from hot sun and drying winds. It’s a superb choice for shady, damp borders or as part of a woodland planting scheme.
Sold currently in 2 litre pots.
Height & Spread: 90–120cm x 75cm
Position: Partial to full shade
Soil: Moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil
